The historic city of George Town is best surveyed on foot or by trishaw. Such a leisurely exploration is the only way to appreciate the old world charm of the old charisma & architecture legacy of the town.
The cultural diversity of this memorable place can be expressed in minute if you walk, which are normally escape by those who explore the city from the tour bus.
While Fort Cornwallis and the religious monuments along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling are included in most packaged city tours, highlighted on these walkabout trails are several interesting locations, that give you further insight into the multicultural history of Penang.
The historic city of Georgetown can be easily explored using the information on leaflets and maps provided and are best done on foot. Each trail will take one and a half hours for a leisurely stroll, or up to three hours if you investigate each cultural attraction along the way. The leaflet and maps can be obtain from this website or from the Penang Tourism office near Fort Cornwallis.
You are advised to wear proper walking shoes, use lots of sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat or to use an umbrella. A bottle of drinking water would be necessary as you are sure to become thirsty during the tour. Decent clothes are a must when entering houses of worship.
